AJ honorably served 29 years with the City of Atlanta Police Department, retiring in 2009 as a seasoned and decorated law enforcement officer. Following his retirement, he was recruited by the Atlanta Public Schools system, where he played a transformative role in the evolution of school safety operations. Notably, AJ developed the district’s first formal training program for School Safety Coordinators, personally leading the training of over 100 coordinators across 99 schools.

He also co-authored the district’s first safety coordinator training manual, “Understanding How to Construct a School Safety Plan,” which was reviewed by the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA), the Atlanta Police Department School Detectives Unit, and the Atlanta 911 Emergency Center—ensuring full alignment with state and national best practices.
